BEACHES:

The beaches are one of the main reasons to visit the Algarve, that's why I mention them in the begining.

  • Porto de mós     (between Luz and Lagos)
  • Praia da luz      (really near by the village with the same name)
  • Meia Praia        (very big beach extending from Lagos to Alvor)
  • Batata                (= Potatoe :)- very close to the center of Lagos)
  • Burgau              (near the village with the same name)
  • Dona Ana          (near Lagos (Hotel Golfinho)- very popular beyond the tourists)
  • Salema              (Southwest of the Algarve, directly in the village)
  • Boca do Rio       (= mouth of the river :)- a little appart from any village or city, near Budens)
  • Zavial                 (Near Raposeira- good for surfers)
  • Ingrina               (neighbour of Zavial)
  • Beliche              (to reach the beach you have to climb down a cliff path- between Sagres and Cabo de S. Vicente)
  • Martinhal          (Near Sagres- good for windsurfers)
  • Mareta               (directly by Sagres- better for sunbathing)
  • Tonel                 (also near Sagres, beside Mareta but much windier)
  • Bordeira and Amado (Near Carrapateira, between Vila do Bispo and Aljezur- big and windy)
  • Amoreira           (Near Aljezur- has a river estatuary)
  • Arrifana             (Near Aljezur, it's a westcoast beach)
  • Odeceixe           (Near Odeceixe- Northwest corner of the algarve, on the border to the Alentejo)
  • Monte Clérigo  (Near Arrifana)

I'll try to get some pictures to show you these beaches.

Lagos:

Lagos is a very beautiful, historical little city. It's the place from where Henry the Navigator mostly parted with his ships to places in the unknown world. Nowadays it's very apreciated by tourists from all over the world.

The "Avenida dos Descobrimentos" is a street that passes along the center of the city, decorated with palm trees at her side. On one side it comunicates with the city and on the other with the water that comes from the ocean, forming a little river that binds the ocean with the Marina.

From the Avenida you reach the centre of Lagos, with many shops, bars and monuments.

On the first round place you'll see a big statue from D. Sebastião (a very famous king of Portugal).

Restaurants: (my opinion) -> Lambertos, Adega da Marina, near praia D. Ana (can't remember the name), ...

Bars: I have to admit that Lagos is not the ideal city for Party people, you can go out at night but there are just a few Discos and mostly Bars. Real party is in Praia da Rocha and Albufeira. Although in summer there are lots and lots of people, and I, for instance prefer Bars to Discos.

     - Inside Out, The Irish Rover, Mulens, White's, rgb, Bom bordo, Stevie Rays, Gran Café, xpreitaki, Bonvivant, etc.

Cinema: There is a cinema (Lagoshopping) in the center of the city, with 2 rooms.

Centro Cultural de Lagos: for the cultural aspects, with many exibitions, music and theatre.

Hospital: There are 2: a private (Hospital de S. Gonçalo) and a public (Hospital de Lagos- near the chirch of S. Maria).

Library: near the public Hospital.

Slave market: now it's a place for exibitions, only many years ago it was a slave market. It's near Stevie Rays, Bonvivant and the public hospital.

I don't want to say too much, discover it for yourself =).

I'm sorry, people, that I haven't included more information about the Algarve in my website. But I really had no time. I hope that soon I can show you more great things about this part of Portugal. Have a good time...;)
